Frequently Asked Questions

When's the best time to sand our school hall floor, and how far ahead should we book?
Summer holidays suit large halls; a half-term works only for small single rooms. We also work evenings and weekends around your timetable, exams and lettings, and university vacations for lecture halls and halls of residence. Book by March - summer diaries fill up by April.
How long does it take, and will it be ready before term starts?
A single hall is typically a 2-4 day programme including cure time - a 'holiday sprint' that fits the break. Larger multi-area jobs (assembly, dining and sports halls together) can be phased so part of the school stays open, or spread across several holidays or budget years.
Is school floor sanding dust-free and safe with pupils on site?
Dust-controlled extraction captures around 95-98% of airborne dust - a health-and-safety requirement in schools - which makes it safe to work with some pupils on site. We're honest that it isn't literally 100% dust-free, so work zones are contained and adjoining rooms protected.
What child-safe finish do you use in classrooms and halls?
Bona Traffic HD is GREENGUARD Children & Schools certified (under 125 g/L VOC, low odour), so it's child-safe, durable enough for hundreds of pupils a day, and low-odour enough to keep neighbouring classrooms in use during the works. For PE halls we use a non-slip sports lacquer with encapsulated lines.
Are your operatives DBS-checked, and can you supply safeguarding paperwork?
Yes. All site staff are enhanced-DBS checked, and we supply method statements, risk assessments (RAMS) and COSHH documentation for the safeguarding file. We coordinate keys, alarms, caretaker access and site security around the works, and can provide references from other schools.
Can you restore our Victorian school parquet and re-fix loose blocks?
Yes. Loose blocks are re-fixed and missing or damaged ones replaced with matching reclaimed timber (seasonal humidity in old buildings breaks down the original adhesive). We strip old yellowed varnish, fill gaps and colour-match repairs, including in listed and heritage school buildings.
